HEAT – Hamburg electric autonomous transportation

HEAT (Hamburg Electric Autonomous Transportation) is a research and development project to test the first automated minibus for public transport in Hamburg. Beside the vehicle, the most important subsystems are the decentralized infrastructure along the route and the control centre. A special feature of the minibus is its ability to independently overtake stationary obstacles. The test route in HafenCity is 1.8 kilometers long and is in a complex inner-city traffic environment. The HEAT minibus carries standing and seated passengers at a speed up to 25 km/h. The project is led by HOCHBAHN in association with well-known partners, including companies from the German industry.
